Guide Dog Tammy
You will all recall Tammy, the guide dog we sponsored and named. She will now be over 15 months old and unfortunately the Guide Dogs policy is that once the dog reaches the age of 10 months the dog’s sponsors are no longer given updates on the dogs.
Tammy should by now be undergoing rigorous training in her brown training harness, learning all the skills she needs to guide a blind or partially-sighted person e.g. how walk in a straight line in the centre of the pavement unless there is an obstacle, how to judge heights and widths so that her owner does not bump their head or shoulder and how to deal with traffic. Tammy’s medium term goal is to gain her smart white harness so that she can be matched up with a new owner. This will mark the start of a partnership that should last around seven years. You never know if in the future you meet a black female Guide Dog it might well be our Tammy!
