Annual Luncheon and Prize Presentation
This year the President, Chris Ward, was delighted to welcome Bowls England President, and her husband Graham, to the Annual Luncheon and Prize Giving at Tally Ho! together with the Men's Senior Vice President, Don Darby and his wife, Sandra.
County President, Chris, proposed the toast to Bowls England and thanked Viv for "fitting us into your busy schedule, I for one am well aware of all your commitments over the last year. You have been a wonderful ambassador for Bowls England."
Like all the Bowls England Officers, Viv has been travelling the country attending 26 Celebration Games, 2 trips to Ireland and 2 to Wales for the Internationals which were all very successful from an England point of view, and culminated in a Gold Medal win by the Ladies' Pairs at the European Championships in Jersey.
She highlighted the need for "our sport to continue to be there for everyone, for our elite players at the top and for our grass roots players who enjoy their social afternoons playing at their clubs, we have to continue to press for inclusion of the young, the working women and, yes, the grandparents who do the "school runs" and have child care responsibilities for their families. All of us have to show some resolve and a willingness to be open to suggestions. We can be the driving force behind plans for our future. We can be responsible for the advancement of our sport."
With the opportunity in Bowls England's 10th Anniversary year to hold the Queen's Relay Baton as it makes its way to Queensland for the Commonwealth Games, together with the hope that it may come to Birmingham in 2022, Viv reminded everyone that the greens at Leamington form an integral part of that bid, and went on to thank Warwickshire "for the support and friendship I have received from you".
