Christmas Match was a cracker! The beginning of the festive season was signalled by the annual challenge match against the Warwickshire Women’s Indoor Bowling Association at Rugby Thornfield Indoor Bowls Club. The game was its usual fun occasion with several ladies wearing Christmas earrings and hats including the festive turkey hat with our tour organiser Elaine providing its stuffing with her head.
WWIBA were quick to take advantage of the fact that some of the WWBA ladies took a little while to adjust to the pace of carpet being more used to the unpredictable nature of grass rinks and the outdoor elements. But displaying their usual determination they persisted and at one stage only 6 shots separated the teams but it wasn’t to last.
The precision of the regular indoor bowlers proved to be the deciding factor and with a handful of ends left to play their lead had extended to 20 shots. The outdoor ladies weren’t going down without one last push and eventually were only beaten by 14 shots. Congratulations go to WWIBA for the win and also for celebrating their 25th Anniversary.
WWBA Joy Cooke was delighted to have been in the highest winning rink in her first game as President playing with Jacqui Cook, Jenny Corn (both Lillington) and Mo Yeomans (Blossomfield). Joy was also pleased to be able to congratulate Lynne Innes (Stratford) who received her County Indoor Colt Badge from WWIBA President Ronnie Murphy and both Presidents wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.
