Johns Trophy Win for Warwickshire
The sun was shining and all boded well for an exciting game against Gloucestershire at Lillington BC when both teams needed a win to stand a chance of beating Devon and getting through to the Regional Finals. Warwickshire lost the toss but won the match 125-106.
Highest winning rink went to Kirsty Richards (Kings Heath) with Di Medhurst (Stoke), Di Thurlbeck (Lillington) and Helen Slimm (Whitnash) who started well and never looked back as they sailed to a 20-12 win.
Maureen Edwards with Sigrid Thomas (both Rugby Thornfield), Liz Wooding (Avenue Coventry), and Maureen Tims (Whitnash) were fairly evenly matched at 15 ends 10 all, but a confident surge over the last few ends secured the win 20-13.
Jenny Corn with Jacqui Cook (both Lillington), Joy Cooke (Blossomfield) and Heather Mills (Grange Ladies) moved ahead steadily to start but were level pegging 12 all at 13 ends and despite a concerted effort by their opponents just managed to hang on to a 22-19 lead.
Sue Hornsby (Lillington) with Gill Maund (Sherwood Park), Lynne Innes and Debbie Bloxham (both Stratford) also had a close fought game and were trailing 15-21 at the 18th end but 4 shots on the 19th end gave them the boost they needed and they finished ahead 23-21.
Lisa Smith with Hannah Smith, Lynn Houghton and Abbie Ward (all Avenue Leamington) started strongly and were 11-4 up at 8 ends before their opponents started to pull away and overtake them on the 16th end 18-19 but the home team held on and finished with a draw 22 all.
Moira Parsons with Wendy Holloway (Welford), Margaret Grosvenor (Lillington) and Trish Jarvis (Wolvey) started slowly but pulled back to a 10 all draw by the 11th end when they started to pull ahead but a concerted effort by their opponents left them needing two shots on the last end for a draw which wasn’t to be and they finished 18-19.
County President, Joy Cooke, thanked Lillington for the excellent meal and was delighted to present a Blazer Badge to Hannah Smith (Avenue Leamington).
